Anna Chernesky

Anna is a fifth-year student majoring in the BA Honours Economics program. With an affinity for math, statistics, and writing, she has developed a strong interest in the fields of labour and education economics during her undergraduate journey. In particular, she is interested in investigating the impact of characteristics like gender on individual labour market decisions. What she loves most about IONA is getting to explore the world of economics through the research of her student peers. She is excited to be involved with Volume IX of the journal!

Valentina Ramirez

Director of Operations

Valentina is a fourth-year Bachelor of International Economics student with an interest in the quantitative methods behind economic development. After serving as the creator of her high school newspaper and helping conduct research throughout her undergraduate years, Valentina is excited to parlay this experience to leading IONA’s operations. On top of this, she hopes to share how economics connects with other fields and spark conversation surrounding the history and latest trends in economic sustainability. She is excited to work with an excellent team.

Sarina Chen

Marketing Team Leader

Sarina is a second year arts student. She holds an avid interest in political science and economics. This year, she is ecstatic to hold the positions of marketing leader and podcast contributor. She joined Iona Journal to gain invaluable insights on economic research, while applying her knowledge of econometrics in the podcast team. She hopes to engage more students in scholarly discourse and make economics a fun and accessible topic.


Bhavya Dubey

Bhavya Dubey is a second-year student planning to do a double major in Economics and Statistics. Fascinated by the synergy between these disciplines, she is eager to unravel the intricate ways in which statistics informs economic insights. With a budding interest in marketing and a dash of creative flair expressed through sketching and painting, she brings a well-rounded perspective to problem-solving. Embarking on a journey that crosses boarders and blends cultures, Daisy has nurtured a passion for both economics and marketing with a vibrant perspective. Leaning into her academic foundation, prior experiences, ideas, and aesthetics, she aspires to assist IONA in presenting economic content and enhance its reach through her innovative promotional techniques.

Margo Bel

Margo is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Economics, with an interest in project management and digital marketing. As a Communications and Graphic Design Manager at IONA marketing, Margo is excited to promote the club's activities and help organize thrilling events for everyone at UBC! You can also find her as a Marketing Director at BOLT UBC business analytics and Communications Coordinator at the AUS.
