Jane Platt

Senior Editor

Jane is a fourth-year Honors Economics student interested in public policy, with a specific focus on gender, health, and politics. Previously, she has worked in research in Health Economics, studying the impacts of diseases among different racial groups. This year, she joined IONA to expand and broaden her understanding of economic topics, while sharing her knowledge of econometrics with a wonderful team of editors. She is excited to read the insightful and intriguing research of VSE students, and to collaborate with a great team.

Sahaj Khanna

Senior Editor

Sahaj is a third-year honours economics student with a (potential) minor in math. Within economics, he is highly interested in applied microeconomics, development economics, and political economy. He is excited to read and analyse research papers written by fellow UBC students.

Shiva Sundar

Senior Editor

Shiva is a fifth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Management, specializing in Economics and Business, with a keen interest in the consulting sphere. His proficiency in editing has been honed through a diverse range of experiences, spanning from spearheading editorial responsibilities for a high school magazine to actively curating monthly issues at a corporate bank. Enthusiastic about leveraging his expertise, Shiva is poised to make a meaningful contribution to IONA this year. He eagerly anticipates engaging with the impressive research projects and initiatives his peers are driving in the realm of economics, aiming to spotlight the remarkable accomplishments of the UBC economic community.

Shreya Iyer

Shreya is third year Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Economics and Political Science. She holds an avid interest in the interactions between public policy and economics, especially as it pertains to decision making at a national level. Through the IONA Journal this year, she hopes to discover the practical applications of economic research and looks forward to meeting and working with the editorial team.

Silas Kwok

Silas is a fourth-year student completing his Bachelor of Arts in Honours Economics with a passion for understanding topics including urban development, banking, and labour trends. After having previously served as a Junior Editor and Exchange writer with the Iona Journal, Silas is pumped to be back with Iona Journal as a Senior Editor this year. He looks forward to having more stimulating discussions about economic topics, academic research, and life.

Wuyang Ren

Senior Editor

Wuyang is a third-year Honours Economics student with an interdisciplinary interest in political economy, economic history, and public health. He is particularly interested in using empirical tools to explore how historical policies have contributed to the enduring disparities among communities. He is also fascinated by the intricate relationship between social movements and economic trends throughout the history. As a senior editor, Wuyang hopes to make the opportunity of engaging in the scholarly discourse more accessible to undergraduate students who share a passion in economics.

Ishaan Sahai

Ishaan is a final-year Economics major keen on how an economics lens can be used as a tool to address the issues of the world around him. He has previously been involved with IONA as an Exchange Contributor and Junior Editor, and is excited to connect with other members of the UBC undergraduate Econ community. Ishaan has worked with the federal and provincial governments and is keen on moving into a career emphasizing policy, research, analysis, and/or data after graduating. Agastya Kaul is a first-year Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) student with a keen interest in public policy, behavioural economics, and environmental economics. Having previously served as an editor and executive for his high school newspaper, he brings an extensive experience in editing and writing. Joining IONA Journal, Agastya is eager to broaden his skill set and delve deeper into the academic field of economics, its applications, and its latest advancements in our rapidly evolving world. Ayush is a third-year Bachelor's degree in Arts student, with a major in Economics and a minor in Political Science, displays a keen enthusiasm for utilizing regression models to assess the effects of government policies on society through an economic lens. Beyond his academic commitments, Ayush is working part-time with a youth-focused non-profit organization and aspires to further advance his academic knowledge to contribute to IONA Journal. Ayush’s ultimate goal is to use empirical research methods in order to gain a deeper understanding of the economic consequences of our global environment and the influence of markets on the public sphere.

Doris is a second-year Bachelor of Economics student with a minor in Data Science. Doris is very interested in learning more about the quantitative tools that underpin economic progress. She is very motivated by a genuine desire to improve her writing abilities in the field of economics. Faiz Ray

Juhi is a second-year student majoring in Economics and Statistics. After running an interdisciplinary magazine throughout high school and participating in undergraduate research in her first year, she is excited to join the Iona Journal to expand her knowledge and skillset. Leen Zeidan

Leen is a second-year Arts student hoping to major in Economics, with a particular interest in Microeconomics and game theory. She founded her high school's first monthly newsletter and administered the editorial process, along with research and interviews. Leen is excited to dive deep into IONA Journal and learn more about the academic research and publication process. Alongside a strong team of editors, she is thrilled to collaborate on a common ground of passion and interest for Economics. Her biggest hope is to transform her favorite subject into bite-sized pieces for the average reader to both understand and enjoy.

Leen Al Tabbaa

Leen is a third year Economics major with a minor in Commerce. Her passion for economics lies in a lot of different areas. Some of my interests include macroeconomics, the political international economy, monetary policies, and methods quantitative analysis. In addition, she greatly enjoys the process of academic research and writing, particularly coupled with the use of econometric tools and methods. She is excited to hone my skills, discover more of my interests, and delve deeper into the world of economic research within this role!

Leona Yu

Leona is a second-year Bachelor of International Economics student aiming to channel her passion for writing and editing. Her origins trace back to Calgary, Alberta, although she grew up in numerous countries. She envisions research pursuits in her post-graduate path and exploring different areas of economics. This is her second year in the IONA journal and she is excited to gain more detailed exposure to academic papers while building connections with like-minded peers.

Luigi Vicencio

As a second-year student in the Bachelor of Arts program, Luigi Vicencio hopes to foster his economics knowledge and gain experience in academia. During high school in Brazil, Luigi earned silver and bronze medals in the Brazilian Economics Olympiad and co-founded a STEM-focused Blog in which he wrote introductory economics articles. His major economic interests are educational public policies and macroeconomics applied to finance. In his spare time, Luigi enjoys watching soccer and discovering new spots at UBC.

These experiences ignited my love for research in economics, and she is thrilled to continue exploring this path in collaboration with my enthusiastic teammates.

Vaishnavi is a second-year BA student intending to double major in Economics and Psychology. She is interested in Social and Developmental Economics, particularly the intersectionality of income inequality and hopes to be involved in Policy Research. In her free time she is at the Pottery club, reading or playing the guitar. She is excited to contribute to the next edition of the Iona journal and looks forward to gaining research skills!

His enthusiasm for economics goes beyond the classroom, as he actively seeks to deepen his knowledge in various fields. Yash is eager to uncover the practical implications of academic research in economics and how it can address today's most pressing issues.

Zubayer Khan Nabil

A second year student of the Bachelors of Art program at UBC, Zubayer aims to study economics with focus on developmental and welfare economics. His interest lies in understanding economic policies in their historical and philosophical context. He has experience in research through his academic work and is well versed in economics as a tutor of the subject. This year, he plans to bring both his academic curiosity and skills to an exceptional editorial team to present some exceptional literature in economics.
